Yolyn Am Valley (Ice Field)
The Yolyn Am Valley (Ice Field) is one of the great canyon in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National park. Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National park is located in Southern Mongolia. The Gobi Gurvan Saikhan is end of the Altai Mountain Range. Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park which is a strictly protected area, covering 70sq.kms. The National park was estamblished in 1965. The Yolyn am valley named by Bearded Vulture which means Yol in Mongolia.
Yolyn am is a beautiful deep canyon with many rock cliff, has been created by many years of water erosion. Very wide at the entrance and it narrow gradually into a remarkablegorge. In earlier times, the block of ice rarely melted,being protected from vicious sunlight. The ice field reaches several meters thick by the end of winter, and 2 to 3 kilometers long. In past years it remained year round, modern ice field tends to disappear by September. Besides its picturesque landscape, is a home to the Bearded Vulture, an old world vulture.
